The Tang Center Courtyards

The Tang Center is the student health facility for UC Berkeley students. The facility has two courtyards which are under used due to their design. A redesign of the courtyards as therapeutic landscapes started with an investigation into the person who the building was named after. His Chinese ancestry provided a design inspiration which lead to the development of sculptural seating berms which were planted with various therapeutic plants that help in alleviating anxiety and depression. A water feature was designed to mitigate the busy street noise and provide a specific staff area for respite.
